Merchant questions, answered straight
Everything a merchant asks before opening an online store in Iraq — including what Roowaj does not do.
Getting started and what it costs
What does it cost to open an online store in Iraq?
On Roowaj, nothing during the trial period: no subscription fee, no credit card, no contract. Built from scratch instead, you are paying a developer, hosting, a domain and design work — hundreds of dollars before you sell a single item, and again every year. On Roowaj the only cost is your own time entering products.
How long until my store is ready?
You create the account, pick a store name and a design in minutes; the rest depends on how many products you have, since each needs a photo, a price and a name. Merchants starting with ten products usually finish a shareable store in one sitting.
Do I need a developer or a designer?
No. There are no files to upload, no hosting to arrange and no code to write. You pick one of several ready-made designs and adjust colours and sections from your phone.
Do I need a registered company or trade licence?
Roowaj does not ask for one to open a store. Complying with your country's rules on what you sell remains your responsibility.
What happens when the trial period ends?
No contract holds you, and you can stop whenever you want. Pricing after the trial is published on the pricing page before it takes effect.
Is there a commission on each order?
No. Roowaj takes no cut of your sales, the number of orders is unlimited, and so is the number of product images.
Selling over Instagram, WhatsApp and Telegram
My Instagram page sells well. Why would I need a store?
The page brings the customer in, but it does not finish the order. In DMs the same questions about price, size and availability repeat, addresses arrive incomplete, and you keep no record of who bought. The store takes over that step: the customer chooses for themselves and leaves complete details, while the page goes on doing what it is good at — being found.
Does this mean leaving Instagram?
No — the opposite is the point. You put your store link in the bio and in stories, so anyone serious finishes on their own instead of waiting for a reply. The content stays on Instagram; the order moves somewhere that keeps it.
I sell over WhatsApp. What changes?
Instead of assembling an order out of ten scattered messages, you send one link and the order arrives written down: product, option, quantity, name, number, address. The conversation goes back to being for questions and reassurance, not for recording the order.
Does Roowaj work with Telegram and Messenger too?
Yes. The store link is one link and it works wherever your customer messages you — WhatsApp, Instagram, Telegram, Messenger or anywhere else.
How do I know which channel brings me orders?
You share the same link with a channel tag per place, and every order records where it came from — the storefront itself, WhatsApp, Instagram, Telegram, Messenger, or an order you entered from the dashboard. After a couple of weeks you know which channel is worth your time.
Does Roowaj message my customers automatically?
Roowaj does not message your customers on your behalf. You send; the store hands you the order summary and its link, ready to share.
Orders, payment and delivery
How do I get paid? Is there online payment?
There is no online payment gateway in Roowaj. Your customer pays the way the two of you agreed — cash on delivery or a direct transfer — and you then mark the order paid in the dashboard. The benefit is not in collecting the money; it is that who has paid and who has not stays written down instead of remembered.
Does Roowaj deliver orders?
No. Delivery stays with whoever handles it for you today, your own courier or a delivery company. What Roowaj adds is that the address and phone number arrive written out in full with every order — the part that usually gets lost in chat.
What happens when a new order arrives?
The order appears in the dashboard with all its details, and stock drops automatically. You move it through four clear stages — pending, confirmed, completed, cancelled — so you know where every order stands without asking anyone.
Can I enter an order that came by phone or chat myself?
Yes. You add it from the dashboard, and it enters the same record and affects stock like any other order.
What if a product runs out?
Stock drops with each order, so what has run out stops selling. That prevents the most expensive mistake in chat selling: confirming an order for something you no longer have.
Does Roowaj keep a record of my customers?
Yes. Every order is linked to the customer who placed it, so over time you build a record of names, numbers and past orders. This is what DMs lose: after five hundred customers, there is no way back to the people who bought from you except a new ad.
The store itself
What does my store link look like?
Every store gets a free link of the form yourstore.roowaj.com, where you choose your store's name.
Can I use my own domain?
Not yet. Custom domains are on the roadmap; until then the yourstore.roowaj.com link works immediately with no setup.
How does the store look? Can I change it?
You pick from several ready-made designs, each with its own character, colours and page layout, and you adjust colours, sections and product order yourself. Switching design loses you no products, and the current list is shown in the Roowaj guide and on the Templates page in your dashboard.
Is the store in Arabic?
Yes, Arabic is the default and the layout runs right to left. English is available too, for both the storefront and the dashboard.
Will my store show up in search results?
Yes, store pages are built to be read by search engines. Early on, though, your own channels stay the main source of visits: the link in your Instagram bio, in stories, and in WhatsApp conversations.
Do I need a computer to run the store?
No. The dashboard runs from a phone: adding a product, following orders, marking one paid.
Can I run discounts and promo codes?
Yes, in several forms: a percentage or a fixed amount, a code the customer enters, a discount applied automatically, a bundle, buy-X-get-Y, or free shipping. Each one has a usage limit and start and end dates, so the Eid offer does not keep running after Eid.
Can I give an influencer a discount code of their own?
Yes. Add them as a marketing partner, give them a code and a link, and set their commission: a share of sales, a fixed amount per order, or both. Orders placed with the code, sales and the commission owed are counted for you, and the partner gets a page of their own, with no sign-in, showing their live numbers. Nothing on it can be edited by hand.
Can the customer see where their order is?
Yes. They get a permanent order-status link they can open any time to see whether it is pending, confirmed or completed — instead of messaging you to ask.
I sell appointments, not products. Does Roowaj suit me?
Yes. Booking products let the customer pick their slot as they order, and you get a view of upcoming bookings separate from the regular order list.
Does it handle subscriptions or recurring orders?
Yes. A subscription product renews automatically on its schedule and creates a new order each cycle, and you manage active, cancelled and completed ones from one place.
I run a restaurant or café. Does it handle pickup and dine-in?
Yes. At checkout the customer chooses delivery, pickup or dine-in, so you do not have to ask afterwards.
What Roowaj does not do
What is missing today?
No online payment gateway, no custom domains yet, no delivery service of its own, and no messaging your customers on your behalf. If any of those is a hard requirement for your business today, Roowaj is not the right tool for you yet.
Who is Roowaj for?
For the merchant already selling over chat who wants orders to stop getting lost in it: an Instagram page, a WhatsApp number, a Telegram channel. It suits clothing, perfume, accessory, electronics, gift, flower and book shops, restaurants and cafés, and handmade sellers.
