How to use the Profit margin calculator

  1. 1

Enter what an item costs you (including shipping or packaging if you want the true number) and what you sell it for.

  2. 2

Read the profit per item, the margin (profit ÷ price) and the markup (profit ÷ cost).

  3. 3

Use the second calculator to go the other way: cost plus the margin you want → the price to list.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between margin and markup?

Margin is profit as a share of the selling price; markup is profit as a share of the cost. An item costing 7,500 sold at 10,000 has a 25% margin but a 33% markup.

Which one should I use?

Margin tells you how much of each sale you keep. Markup is handy when pricing from cost. Most shops think in markup and report in margin — this tool shows both.

Does it work with Iraqi dinar?

It works with any currency — it's just numbers. Type 7500 or 7,500; commas and Arabic digits are fine.
